With the cancellation of sporting events and the volatility of the retail and service industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, NFL veteran, Akeem Spence and his former teammates have come together to stimulate local businesses and feed over 1000 senior citizens. MandR Catering, Chefonpoint (Matthew Lovell) Chef Kevin Harris ( Taste of Gourmet), Momma’s Soul food, 7TH and Grove, Carriban Twist, Open Cafe. Additionally, The Center For Economic Development,Tampa Housing Authority, Health Matters Pharmacy and volunteers will greet residents with hot meals and COVID-19 health information.
“In this time of crisis, my foundation and fellow teammates are eager to do our part both individually and collectively to help the most vulnerable people in our communities”, says Spence. ”Tampa has become home to many of us and we are committed to helping the community that supports us.”
Providing volunteer and logistic support, Bishop Scott, was a candidate for County Commissioner District 3, assisted the Foundation with the location of the senior residents and will be on hand to assist with distribution. This project will provide fresh cooked meals for the seniors at THA locations and will also provide a boost to local restaurants in the Tampa Bay area who have also been impacted by COVID-19.
